Southeast Station is on the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) Metro-North Harlem Line and is situated within the Brewster Yards Maintenance Facilities. The Station and Yards are undergoing a major expansion and upgrade, including a major re-orientation of automobile, bus, bicycle, and pedestrian ways for MTA customer access from the West side of the existing station platform to the East side. DHK Architects is part of the Design Team providing 30% documents to be used in the MTA C&D Design-Build procurement process.
A new vehicular bridge at Independent Way over the Harlem Line Rail Corridor will connect the two sides. The new bridge and extended roadway will take customers to a new five-level parking garage. From the new garage customers will be able to proceed to a new station waiting room, and a new pedestrian bridge above the Southbound rail will provide access from the station waiting room to the existing Southeast Station elevators and train platform.
DHK Architects designed all elements, from the garage to the platform, which create enhanced passenger amenities, ticketing systems, audio-visual communication and wayfinding systems and also provide full accessibility for all customers.
