The Carioca project comprises the renovation of an existing 200-unit, 30-year old public housing development located in Guayama, Puerto Rico. In this extensive rehabilitation, a new street connects the upper and lower parts of the site with the community building, reinforcing an important pedestrian axis that ties all the buildings to the community center. An important intersection was reconfigured to provide a more direct entry into the site and existing barriers were partially dismantled to open streets and visually connect the development to the surrounding street grid.
